In a previous article I discussed the differences between plasma and LCD screen panels. Today, I took the opportunity to take some pictures of a disassembled edge-lit LCD panel, which was done in an attempt to learn more about a strange issue with a television we plan to recycle.
The panel is disassembled, with various sheets of material separated from each other.
Notice the layers of materials for the panel?
Lifting up the last layer of the panel will reveal the problem!
A close up of the LEDs which line an edge-lid LCD television.
The problem? A missing LED, as well as a shorted LED. It was also discovered that the panel got so hot, the edges of the diffuser were warped and melted. Various other problems relating to the heat issue ultimately resulted in the television being set aside for recycling.
